Strengthen our Community is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to improving outcomes for children, families and communities in northern Nevada. We do this by raising awareness of key barriers to opportunity, identifying solutions and bringing partners together to collaboratively implement those solutions through increased investment, policy change and the creation of or expansion of successful programs.

Inspired by the story of the starfish, but with a twist. Most of us are familiar with the story of the starfish, penned by Loren Eisley. The abridged version goes, “One day, a man was strolling along the beach when he spotted a boy tossing a starfish back into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he inquired, “What are you doing?” The boy responded, “If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.” “Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and thousands of starfish? You can’t make a difference!” The boy stooped down, picked up another starfish, and flung it back into the surf. Then, he said…” I made a difference for that one.”
